Centre for Poverty and Access to Justice
The Centre for Access to Justice was established in the year 2020 with the aim of minimising and mitigating the obstacles faced by the socially and economically disadvantaged people in accessing justice. The objective of the Centre is to promote community and traditional justice systems that are relatively easily accessible to vulnerable groups, and to make them more compliant with Human Rights. The Centre aims at studying the barriers to access to justice with emphasis on the groups disadvantaged due to inequality in their economic status, discrimination and lack of legal awareness; and overcoming the barriers through State, Civil Society and policy Intervention
VISION AND MISSION
MISSION
To advance equitable access to justice for socially and economically disadvantaged groups by promoting community and traditional justice systems that are accessible and compliant with human rights standards. The Centre is dedicated to identifying and addressing barriers to justice through research, legal awareness, and policy intervention, working collaboratively with the State and Civil Society to empower marginalized communities and foster an inclusive legal environment.
VISION
To create a society where all individuals, regardless of economic status or social background, can access fair and just legal remedies. The Centre envisions a future where traditional and community justice systems operate in harmony with human rights principles, ensuring that vulnerable groups can overcome legal barriers and achieve justice through informed, accessible, and sustainable means.
OBJECTIVE
The Centre for Poverty and Access to Justice is dedicated to pioneering transformative change by dismantling the complex barriers that prevent socially and economically disadvantaged groups from accessing justice. Our approach centers on enhancing legal literacy, reforming traditional justice mechanisms to align with human rights principles, and expanding legal services that reach the most marginalized communities. By driving policy innovations, fostering strategic partnerships, and conducting cutting-edge research, we aim to create a resilient ecosystem where justice is not only accessible but empowering. Our ultimate goal is to build a society where justice transcends economic and social inequalities, ensuring that every individual, regardless of their circumstances, can claim their rights with dignity and confidence.
