Middle School Academics
Achieve – Empower – Serve
The Middle School program at Regis engages both the heart and the mind of each student at a formative time in his life. These years prioritize relational learning above all else, building a mindset in students who, regardless of their affinity for a particular subject, look to each of their teachers and think “I can learn from you.”
Regis provides a carefully cultivated environment that places students in positions of leadership, service and mentorship, naturally instilling a level of executive functioning that is consistently noticed by Houston’s top high schools.
Students are guided by compassionate teachers to take risks without fear of failure, resulting in graduates who are confident leaders in their community.
My sons learn from teachers who challenge them academically while teaching important character traits such as kindness, accountability, independence, honesty, and integrity [...] I have full confidence that Regis is helping to prepare them well for high school and beyond.
Regis has been extremely impactful in providing my son with the confidence, knowledge and tools he needs to be successful in high school and beyond!
Our son has attended Regis since Pre-K3 and [recently graduated] from eighth grade. Being a part of this school has played a key role for our son's moral, spiritual and educational upbringing. We feel we definitely made the right choice in schools because it is amazing in many ways! We highly recommend it to anyone who wants their son to become a scholar and gentleman.
What is special about working at an all-boys school is as an educator you participate in building their character. I am a big boy at heart, and I enjoy mentoring them. The boys thrive in this environment because they can freely be themselves.

Houses of Regis
The Regis curriculum is thoughtful, responsive, deliberate and custom. Our unique boy-centered curriculum allows teachers the latitude to choose learning experiences that are specific to boys. From the selection of topics, projects and classroom materials to the arrangement of classroom furniture to the pedagogy, faculty create an environment where
The Regis Experience
thrives.
Middle School students have an 8-day rotating schedule. Whether a student is best at tackling difficult tasks first thing in the morning, midday or in the afternoon, he'll have the opportunity to experience each subject at different points throughout the day. For example, if a student's Math and Science block is first thing in the morning on an A-Day, this block will be midday on a B-Day and in the afternoon on a C-Day. With this rotating schedule, Regis is able to accommodate each student's unique learning style.

With block scheduling in Middle School at Regis, students have strategically planned breaks for movement, never having more than two classes in a row. Morning recess before school starts the day out with an opportunity to get the body moving before the mind and spirit are engaged. After the first two classes of the day, students attend Advisory, then have a break to grab a snack, get in a game of soccer on the field or throw around a football or frisbee. The next block of two classes ends with lunch and recess, then just one more block of two classes before the end of the school day. Also, Middle School students attend P.E. six out of the eight days on their schedule. P.E. is for a full class period.
Each student is assigned to an Advisor and Advisory group beginning in the fifth grade and remains in this group for the entirety of their time in Middle School. Advisory meets daily and allows for students to share struggles, participate in team-building and begin constructing a more robust support system among their peers at school.
Students experience many “firsts” in Middle School, including changing classes throughout the day, learning how to use a locker, honing organizational skills and—beginning in sixth grade—becoming familiar with using a laptop for their coursework. Regis Middle School Advisors are there every step of the way to ensure each student's success.
Every Middle School student is assigned to a house where they will participate in various activities including feats of strength, academic competitions, athletic challenges and more. Students are assigned to one of four houses when entering fifth grade—Helmet, Armor, Shield or Sword—and will remain in this house throughout their time in Middle School. With the Houses of Regis program, students learn discipline, service, commitment and leadership. Middle School students may participate in the House Council (student government), which further builds upon the core values and ethics of the Houses of Regis program. The House Council organizes social events and social awareness opportunities and addresses topics collectively to best serve the Regis community.
Regis supports families in multiple ways throughout the high school admissions process. In early September, the Middle School Division Head and Dean of Students meet with all parents to provide an overview of the high school admissions process including important deadlines and tips for success.

High School Placement Tests
Throughout the first semester of eighth grade, Regis faculty offer a test preparation course for all interested students. The course is typically held on Saturday mornings throughout the fall. In December, Regis sponsors a practice ISEE test during the school day for all eighth grade students.
As requested, the Regis Director of Enrollment Management meets with eighth grade students to discuss and prepare for the high school admissions interview.
Regis faculty and administrators complete recommendation forms as requested, and the Regis registrar submits all recommendations and transcripts to the prospective high schools on behalf of the Regis students.
Regis students are encouraged to visit local high schools and participate in open houses and shadow days. As a class, students also participate in group tours offered and invited by local high schools. Regis eighth grade students also have an opportunity to speak with recent Regis graduates to learn tips for making a successful transition from Regis to high school.
