The Lone Star Brewery was the first large, mechanized brewery in Texas, having opened in 1884. During its heyday, the brewery produced some 65,000 barrels but ceased operation with the advent of Prohibition. In 1981, SAMA opened in the renovated complex with the slogan “We’re Brewing Art,” and today, we’re "Still Brewing Art."

Virtual Lunch and Learn: Borders and the Artwork of Wendy Red Star
Lecture & Program Recordings
In this talk Dr. Fellah discusses how Red Star’s art can be viewed through the lens of borders, whether they are the borders of the Crow Reservation where Red Star was born and raised, or the borders that divide nations, like Mexico and the United States. Covering nearly twenty years of Red Star’s artwork, this talk ties the physical spaces of borders to Indigenous history and contemporary culture within the shifting and complex borders of American identity.

Superheroes as Supermyths
Lecture & Program Recordings
Superheroes are modern mythologies, or supermythologies, offering moral and social instruction and instilling a sense of awe in their target demographic. Through story, artistry, and imagination, comic books, and superhero films bring to life alternative visions of our past, present, and future. Moving between his research in Papua New Guinea and the multiverse worlds of superheroes, Professor Halvaksz will explore what comic myths can tell us about our own sense of place.
