Important Loan Information
Loan Disbursement Process
Direct Loans disburses loans (less the 1.5% origination fee) in two installments directly to the college. Funds are credited to student accounts through an electronic funds transfer (EFT) process.
First-time borrowers:
Your loan cannot be disbursed until at least 30 days after the first day of school.
Important Requirements and Consequences
Enrollment Requirement:
If loan funds are disbursed for a student who is not enrolled for at least 6 credit hours, funds must be returned to Direct Loans.
Withdrawal Policy:
If you totally withdraw from college prior to completing 60% of the semester, the loan must be prorated based on the number of days in attendance. Unearned loan funds must be returned to the lender. If the loan was used to pay tuition, you may have an outstanding bill with the college.
Exit Interview:
A Loan Exit Interview is required upon graduation or when you cease to be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours.
Interest and Repayment
Subsidized Loans:
Government pays interest while you're in school at least half-time and during grace period
Unsubsidized Loans:
You're responsible for all interest from disbursement
Grace Period:
6 months after graduation or dropping below half-time enrollment
Origination Fee:
1.5% of loan amount is deducted before disbursement
Senior Exit Interview (Graduates)

Exit Counseling Requirements
Students who borrowed Stafford and/or Unsubsidized Stafford Loans can meet this requirement online. This is an opportunity for your lender to remind you of your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower.
