Opthalmology
INTRODUCTION
Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine
concern with the study and treatment of disorders and diseases of the eye.
BRIEF ON DEPARTMENT OF OPHTHALMOLOGY
Ophthalmology
started as a unit under surgery Department in 2002 but became a Department in
2015. Ophthalmology Department is subdivided into units namely; Ophthalmic unit
which comprises of Ophthalmologists and Medical officers who consults patients
in eye clinic and perform surgical operations and the ophthalmic nurses who
makes arrangements for running the eye clinic and ensure smooth patients flow
in and out of the unit as well as in-patients (on ward admission); and the
Optometry unit comprising of optometrists in refraction and low vision section,
Optical dispensing section and Optical laboratory section. All these units work
together under the coordination of Ophthalmologists to ensure quality eye care
delivery to our teeming clients.
The Ophthalmology
department FMC Birnin Kebbi provides comprehensive eye care for both adults and
children. The services are provided by a team comprised of Consultant
Ophthalmologist, resident doctor/ Medical officer, Optometrist, Ophthalmic
nurses, Optician, Health information management and other supporting
staff.
MISSION
To provide total Eye–care solutions of
highest standards to all sections of community through a team competent,
committed and compassionate professionals in a patient-friendly environment.
We are also committed to eradicate
needless blindness by providing high quality eye care to our populace.
