Students need to be in at least six (6) credits to be eligible for most sources of financial aid, with some types of aid requiring full time enrollment of 12 or more credits.
*If you are at less than full-time status in any term, let the Financial Aid Office know. If your enrollment status is different than what your aid is set for, the release of your aid might be held.
Late Fees and Interest Charges
Late fees and interest will be charged to all student accounts (including students receiving financial aid and/or VA benefits) with unpaid balances after the payment due date. However, late fees do not apply to students on the payment plan who make all payments on time. For payment plan due dates, see the
Cashier's Calendar
. In the case of a student receiving VA benefits who has paid all non-VA covered charges by the payment due date, the late fee and interest will be removed once payment that clears the balance is received as long as the certification deadline (end of the second week of the term) was met. Contact the Cashier’s Office at
cashier@oit.edu
or Michelle Monteith
michelle.monteith@oit.edu
for help calculating amounts that will not be covered by the VA (please include which VA benefits you are expecting to receive).
2026–27 Changes to Federal Financial Aid
The following information is subject to change or delays, as final rules/regulations have not been published.
Graduate Students
The Graduate PLUS loan for graduate and professional students is being eliminated starting July 1, 2026.
The aggregate borrowing amount of Federal Direct loans is changing to $100,000 for graduate students. Graduate students may borrow up to $20,500 annually.
All students will also be subject to a new lifetime maximum borrowing limit of $257,500 for all federal student loans combined, excluding Parent PLUS Loans.
Loan Proration
Borrowers enrolled less than full-time will only be able to borrow a prorated maximum loan offer based on enrolled hours.
Federal Pell Grant Changes
Effective with the 2026-27 Academic Year, there are changes scheduled to be enacted to the Federal Pell Grant program.
A "loophole" will be closed that has allowed a limited number of students and families with low incomes, but significant assets, to receive Pell Grants.
Students who receive grants and/or scholarships from non-federal sources that cover their entire cost of attendance will be ineligible to receive a Pell Grant, even if otherwise eligible for the program.
