About our Chemical Pathology service
Our chemical pathologists employ advanced clinical and laboratory skills to perform detailed biochemical tests on body fluids, including blood, urine, tissues and cerebrospinal fluid.
By studying changes in enzymes, proteins, electrolytes and other substances, they provide crucial insights for diagnosing illnesses and guiding patient care.
Service overview
Chemical pathology testing underpins the care and management of many common conditions:
high blood glucose levels, which may indicate diabetes
elevated troponin enzyme levels, suggesting a recent or ongoing heart attack
measuring proteins in cancer tumours to help determine the effectiveness of treatments.
Our chemical pathology teams help diagnose:
infertility
Cystic Fibrosis in newborns
kidney failure
high cholesterol
viral and bacterial infection
thyroid issues and more.
They also perform therapeutic drug monitoring and screen for illegal drug use.
