Wellbeing in partnership
Pastoral care and guidance at St Mary’s are a partnership between the school, parents and pupils. Channels of communication are wide-ranging and frequent between the house teams, tutors, teachers and specialist wellbeing practitioners.
Each pupil has her own personal tutor, an academic member of staff who is responsible for her welfare and guidance and who will listen to, coach and help problem solve. In the Sixth Form, tutors also help to prepare students for university entrance.

Equipping pupils with essential life skills
Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) programme is integral to our academic and pastoral approach. It equips pupils with essential life skills – from emotional resilience to positive relationships – encouraging them to navigate challenges with confidence and maturity.
Led by expert staff and external specialists, PSHE sessions are interactive and thought-provoking. They link closely with the wider curriculum, giving pupils the tools to think critically, explore ideas and grow into thoughtful young adults who are prepared for life beyond school.

Fuel for busy days
Nutritious, freshly prepared meals fuel pupils through their busy and active days. Menus are varied, creative and reviewed regularly, with fresh produce sourced locally wherever possible. Staff and pupils eat together, fostering community and making mealtimes a shared, enjoyable part of school life.
Alongside breakfast, lunch and supper, pupils enjoy themed menus, Sunday brunches and pop-up options such as baguette or pasta bars. Our Food Committee ensures pupils’ voices shape what’s offered, helping create meals that are healthy, balanced and genuinely enjoyed.

Chaplaincy
Our Chapel, at the heart of community life, is a place where the whole school gathers daily to reflect, celebrate and connect. Services are inclusive, varied and often pupil-led, giving every pupil the chance to contribute her voice and share in collective experiences.
Beyond Chapel, Father Jonathan leads weekly visits to houses and is available for individual support, regardless of faith or background. As part of our pastoral team, he offers encouragement and a listening ear. There is always someone pupils can turn to in times of need.
Life at school continues to reflect our foundation as a Church of England school. As an inclusive and warm school we welcome pupils of all faiths and none.

Boarding life
Looking after each pupil is at the centre of boarding life at St Mary’s. Our unique horizontal boarding structure means staff specialise in supporting pupils at each stage of school life, from settling into school in the Lower School to preparing for university in the Sixth Form.
Life in our houses is vibrant and inclusive, with silent discos, weekend adventures and friendships that last a lifetime. Day girls are fully integrated into boarding life, ensuring everyone feels part of one close, caring community where every girl is known and valued.
