Two-Step Process
To be admitted to a graduate program, applicants must first
apply to the University as a graduate student, then apply to the graduate program of their choice. There is a non-refundable application fee.

Step 1 - Apply to the University as a Graduate Student
The
first step
is applying to the University through
Cal State Apply
.
GPA requirement:
A minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA in your undergraduate degree coursework
or
the last 60 units of all coursework is required for admission to the Graduate School. Individual program requirements may be more stringent.
Degree requirement:
A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university is required for admission.
Final transcript timing:
Students may apply before the bachelor’s degree has been posted on the transcript, but a final transcript indicating the degree completion date is required prior to the 20th day of instruction (the census date).
International students:
If you are an international student, please visit the Continuing & Professional Education (CaPE) Office.
Transcript submission details:
To process your application, submit the official transcript from the institution that awarded the baccalaureate degree. If you are still attending an undergraduate program, submit an unofficial transcript for the initial application, then submit an official transcript with your degree confirmed ASAP. Stan State alumni do not need to submit official transcripts. If your previous institution does not provide electronic official transcript delivery, use an alternate official transcript submission method.

Official transcripts are required. On some instances, we do permit an unofficial transcript to make an admission decision; however, we must have an official transcript. Submissions should ideally be submitted by the first day of classes, but no later than the census date (the 20th date of instruction). If we do not receive an official transcript, no financial aid monies can be dispersed and we will place a hard hold on the student record, and they may not continue in the program and/or register for the subsequent term.
Your program may request additional official transcripts for program specific requirements. For example, if you have taken courses after your undergraduate degree completion and want them to be counted as either prerequisites for your graduate degree program, or to be used to calculate your last 60 units GPA.

Some programs only require the Cal State Apply application.
Each graduate program has unique requirements and application processes. For more information, including program application questions
contact the program directly
.
The graduate program you applied to will notify you of your acceptance. Admission to the University is contingent upon receiving admission to the program.
Graduate Program Contacts
All students with coursework from countries other than the United States need to provide a report of course work and degree equivalency to U.S. standards – through a credential evaluation.
Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by one of the
approved organizations
. These organizations are private enterprises that have been approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and they charge a fee for their services.
In all instances, original, official documentation will be required when requesting an evaluation.
