How to pay your Council Tax
Pay online
Paying online is easy and secure. The cards we accept are: Visa Credit, Visa Debit, UK Maestro, International Maestro, Mastercard, Electron and JCB and you must be registered with
3D Secure 2
(also known as verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode) for your payment to be authorised.
You’ll need your Council Tax account number which you’ll find on your bill.
Pay online
Pay by Direct Debit
You can set up a Direct Debit securely online to pay your current year instalments. You’ll need:
your Council Tax account number
your bank account number and sort code – you must be the account holder and authorised to set up a Direct Debit.
Payments can be taken on the 1st, 7th, 15th, 21st or 28th of each month, over 10 or 12 instalments.

You can amend your Direct Debit by
logging in to your account
. Do not change your Direct Debit within seven days of your existing payment date, otherwise two payments may be taken in the same month. Please allow 14 days before the date your account would usually be debited for these changes to be made.
You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your bank or building society. Please also

Pay by online banking
You can pay via your online bank account using the details below.

You will need to quote your Council Tax account number when making your payment, which you will find on your bill.
Pay at a Post Office or PayPoint outlet
On the front of your bill is a barcode. Take this to any Post Office or PayPoint outlet.
Your bill shows the instalment amounts and the dates on which you should pay them. You should pay at least seven days before the payment is due to make sure it reaches us in time.
Tell the cashier how much you want to pay and they will process your payment and give you your bill back with a receipt. Keep this receipt as proof of payment.
The barcode includes details of your payment reference number and replaces payment cards. You can still use a payment card if you have one, but we no longer replace them.

Pay over the phone
You can make a payment by phoning our 24-hour automated payment line on 0800 023 7082. The cards we accept are: Visa Credit, Visa Debit, UK Maestro, International Maestro, Mastercard, Electron and JCB.
You’ll need your Council Tax account number which you’ll find on your bill.
Payments from abroad
If you are making a payment from abroad via bank transfer you will need the following information.

Your bank may charge you for making a transfer from abroad. In some cases, the amount we receive may be your original payment, minus bank fees.
