Call for Artists:
Design Boulder’s New Unofficial Municipal Flag
The Museum of Boulder is inviting designers, artists, students, and community members to submit proposals for a new unofficial municipal flag that reflects Boulder’s identity, culture, and shared values. This initiative aims to spark community dialogue around heritage, history, and how Boulder presents itself to the world, while encouraging creative interpretations of what makes the city unique. Organizers are seeking a design that is simple, meaningful, and distinctive, with the potential to become a recognizable symbol for the community. Submissions are due by Friday, April 24 at midnight (MT), and the winning designer will receive a $500 prize.
Designs must follow the North American Vexillological Association’s “Five Principles of a Good Flag,” emphasizing simplicity, meaningful symbolism, limited color palettes, and strong visual clarity without lettering or seals. Proposals should include a digital flag design in a 3:5 ratio, a short explanation of its symbolism, and contact information for the designer or team. Entries will be reviewed by a panel of local designers, city representatives, and a member of the North American Vexillological Association, with judging based on creativity, connection to Boulder’s heritage, and adherence to the guidelines. The winning design will be announced May 11 and unveiled at a public ceremony ahead of the inaugural Sundance Film Festival, with additional recognition given to top amateur and elementary school submissions.

Boulder Eats!
is an exhibition at the Museum of Boulder focusing on food traditions along the Front Range, with a special emphasis on our community’s restaurants, farms, and kitchens. Over 300 objects from the Museum’s historic collection featuring kitchens, health food businesses, orchards, schools and restaurants are on view. Programs including cooking classes, demonstrations, nutrition workshops and more will also be available to our visitors making this a can’t miss experience.
Using objects from the Museum’s permanent collection, the exhibit tells Boulder’s story through the foods we eat. Exploring our farms and gardens, the evolving technology in our kitchens, the impact Boulder’s natural food businesses have had on our own and our nation’s health, as well as the cultural stories reflected at our dinner tables both at home and in local restaurants come together to tell and even shape our community’s history. Boulder Eats! Food Traditions along the Front Range explores Boulder and how the food we consume energizes, celebrates, and reflects our traditions, who we have become, and what we value today.
