NEWS AND HIGHLIGHTS
Sowmiya Ramesh, an ex-SRF in Prof. Shruthi S. Vembar’s group, presented her work on adapting CRISPR/Cas13 systems to
Plasmodium falciparum
for transcriptome engineering at the Annual Molecular Parasitology Meeting 2025, Wood’s Hole, MA, USA in online mode, for which she won the Online Poster Award. Sowmiya had also won an award in the previous year for a poster presentation on her CRISPR/Cas13 work at the National Congress in Parasitology 2024 held at IISER Pune.
Congratulations to PhD student Sampreeth Gowda (Supervisor: Prof. Rajalakshmi Srinivasan) on winning the best poster award for the work that he presented at India Yeast Meeting 2025, conducted at IISc, Bengaluru. Prof. Rajalakshmi was a co-organiser of the Meeting and also gave a talk.
Congratulations to MSc student Dibyendu Kishore Majumder (245HSBB011) for winning the best student paper award at the recently concluded 22nd International Conference on Distributed Computing and Intelligent Technology (https://icdcit.kiit.ac.in/).
Dibyendu Kishore Majumder, Sharvari Shet, Nithya Ramakrishnan, Rajalakshmi Srinivasan and Shyam Sundar Rajagopalan (2026). Genomic Language Model Embeddings for Metabolic State Prediction from Mitochondrial Genome Sequences.
Congratulations to PhD student Varsha HJ (Supervisor: Prof. Shruthi S. Vembar) on her selection to participate in the EMBL course on “Exploratory Analysis of Biological Data: Data Carpentry” to be held in Barcelona, Spain from Feb 2-6, 2026. She has also been selected to receive the prestigious Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds Travel Grant that will completely cover her registration, lodging and travel expenses.
