Peace Party sets forward its Principles for contesting Council Elections on 7 May 2026
The Peace Party, contesting Council Elections in Horsham and Guildford, is fully committed and fully determined to keep pushing for the better world that its supporters know is possible.
In a world brimming with conflict, impunity, inequality, and unpredictability, the community cannot afford complacency, denial or delay. It cannot be bystanders to injustice, indifference, or impunity.
The Peace Party is certain that the community has the will, and possesses the principles, to chart a different course.
Government and Councils must adhere to the UN Charter – fully and faithfully.
The Charter is a compact which binds us all. It must be the foundation of community as well as international relations – the bedrock of peace, sustainable development, and human rights equality and our shared values.
The concentration of power and wealth in so few hands is morally indefensible. More than that, it is a clear and present danger to the Charter and the promise of equal rights and dignity for all.
Governments, and councils must be relentless in their work for peace with justice – peace between nations, peace within and between communities, and peace with nature.
Peace with justice means peace grounded in the law and on human rights – economic, social, cultural, civil and political – which are inalienable, indivisible and interdependent.
The Peace Party continues to work for Peace with Nature.
A world in climate chaos with unprecedented and on-going global heating cannot be a place at peace.
Climate justice is an investment in peace and security, because vulnerability anywhere becomes a risk everywhere – rippling through financial systems, supply chains and stability.
All of this is essential to build a more equitable, peaceful, just and sustainable future.
Unity can be built in an age of division: governments and councils need to understand this.
Around us, we see the risk of communities and societies breaking down under the weight of racism, xenophobia, and bigotry.
The dangers are not abstract; they are visible in the daily lives of millions, supercharged by rhetoric and disinformation that seeks to exclude rather than embrace.
The challenge for governments and councils – and their priorities – must be to build a welcoming society, where everyone’s identity is respected, and all feel they belong and are bound by shared human values.
Harmony is never accidental. It requires deliberate policy, resources and political courage.
Elected representatives should learn to put their common humanity first; otherwise, we risk losing everything that makes a strong community.
The UN Charter gives government at all levels its compass. Our pursuit for peace with justice gives us that purpose. And our common humanity gives our representatives the imperative to act.
The world is changing – often in ways that are unsettling, but also in ways that are inspiring. The Peace Party believes in the population’s capacity for solidarity and justice.
Even in the rough seas of today, we can anchor our action in peace, dignity, and hope. Hope and Kindness live on our streets and amongst our neighbours.
The duty we share as representatives is to seek truth, to respect evidence, and to act with care — for a future worth living in, a world that sustains us.
