MVNU Online Financial Aid
Several misconceptions circulate around financial aid for adults who plan to go back to school.
That adult students aren’t eligible for scholarships, grants, and loans.
That the best financial aid packages go directly to students who recently finished high school.
Adults have a much greater financial burden, so it’s not worth it to go back to school.
As a result, adults who are considering finishing their bachelor’s degree, starting a master’s degree, or acquiring additional career-enhancing credentials get deterred by all the rumors out there and don’t apply.
Mount Vernon Nazarene University factors your needs into our College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS) programs. Most degree programs can be completed online, and our affordable tuition is structured on a per-credit, course-by-course basis. This allows you to continue working while studying on your own timeline. Financial aid fits into this framework, too. If you’re interested in online courses, there are a wealth of financing resources available.

To take advantage of all possible financial aid options, we advise you to first complete your
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
form (School Code: 007085) with your application and then reach out to an MVNU Financial Aid advisor for further guidance through the process.
How The MVNU Online Financial Aid Process Works
Students entering the MVNU Online program cannot be evaluated for aid until they have submitted their application with a completed FAFSA form. Together, both documents are essential for determining need and awarding a financial aid package.
Contrary to assumptions, adult students attending MVNU are eligible for multiple types of financial aid awards. These include grants, federal subsidized Stafford loans, and federal unsubsidized Stafford loans. For graduate students with high academic standing, assistantships may also be an option, while all adult students may further seek outside scholarship, grant, and loan programs.
Many employers also offer tuition reimbursement as an employee benefit, believing continuing education allows workers to pick up new skills, excel in their jobs, work toward a promotion, and become a valuable asset to their organization. MVNU encourages all adult students to inquire with their employer about tuition reimbursement, including applications and grade, career, and credit requirements.
In general, no age limit exists for receiving financial aid. However, adult students pursuing a second bachelor’s degree should be wary of certain grant and loan restrictions that could affect their award.

You’ll be awarded your maximum eligibility for all financial aid, including Federal Direct Loans. You must immediately notify the Financial Aid office if you don’t want part of the award.
MVNU Online Attendance Policy
Federal regulations require that you don’t have a break in your attendance of more than 45 days from the end of one course to the start of another course. A break in attendance that is 30 days or more requires one of the following:
Fill the break with another course
Apply for a Leave of Absence
Withdraw from the university
Schedule Changes Or Course Failure
Federal regulations require that you must successfully complete all required credit hours for each disbursement. You’ll be unable to receive a new disbursement of financial aid unless this regulation is fulfilled.
Any schedule change — adds or drops — will affect your financial aid eligibility and a new award letter will be issued. It is your responsibility to contact MVNU to determine the impact of the change on your award.
Finally, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress to remain eligible to receive financial aid. This includes maintaining a specific grade point average and making continuous progress toward completing your program within a specific timeframe.
Withdrawal
The Student Financial Services office is required to complete a Return of Funds Calculation if you withdraw to determine what percentage of aid you’re eligible to keep. Based on the calculation, funds may need to be returned to the state or Department of Education. This may create an outstanding balance on your account. Student Accounts will adjust your bill once the calculation is complete.
