Our mission and vision
We improve the health and quality of life of the people and communities we serve through world-class, patient-centered care, and drive the future of health and wellness with transformative nursing leadership.
From the chief nursing officer
When I think about nursing at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, I am filled with a sense of pride and deep humility. I’m proud that nursing continues to evolve as a profession and that it plays an integral role in achieving strategic priorities and organizational goals.
I’m humbled by the unwavering dedication and commitment of so many who, on a daily basis, make personal and professional sacrifices to ensure that our mission and values are the lived experiences for those we serve.

Designations & accreditations
Magnet designation, since 2015
The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet recognition is the highest national credential for professional nursing. Only 9% of U.S. health care organizations receive this designation—which we have received for nearly a decade.
NICHE designation, since 2002
We’re a proud Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE)-designated hospital, recognized for our efforts to address geriatric needs and improve care for the elderly.
A Baby-Friendly hospital
The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) is a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). We’ve been recognized as a Baby-Friendly hospital due excellence in infant care.
AACN Gold and Silver Beacon Excellence
Our cardiothoracic, coronary care and medical intensive care units are silver, and our medical intensive care is gold.
Our professional practice and care delivery models
Nurses at all levels of practice participate in professional practice committees including the CNO cabinet. This structure ensures that nurses' voices are heard throughout the organization. Clinical nurses select and engage in performance improvement activities, participate in our mentorship program and are supported in advancing research and evidence-based practices.
