Progress & Attainment
Progress
Progress for pupils and students is tracked carefully from their starting point at St Dominic’s every term against national curriculum outcomes. We also use a range of other assessment tools to measure progress in maths and English each year to review spelling, reading, comprehension and numeracy.
We measure pupils and students’ progress in holistic outcomes through:
The PASS test measuring pupil/student attitude to self and school
The CAT test measuring cognitive ability
Progress in communication, independence and self-development, enrichment and learning
Pupils and students’ progress against their EHCP outcomes is tracked using provision map.
Attainment
Pupils and students work towards a broad range of qualifications over time, developing the skills they need to have success in public examinations.
At Key Stage 2, pupils are able to take the end of key stage tests.
At Key Stage 4, pupils attain qualifications in broad a range of subjects. This includes BTEC, GCSE and functional skills.
At Key Stage 5, students work towards GCSEs, BTEC, functional skills and AS/A level.
End of Key Stage 2 Assessment Summary
Each year, pupils working at or around Age-Related Expectations are considered for end of key stage 2 assessments. Decisions about who takes part are made on an individual basis, taking into account each pupil’s Special Educational Needs. This personalised approach means outcomes can vary from year to year.
Assessment Outcomes
2023–2024:
4 pupils took the assessments; 1 met the expected standard.
2024–2025:
4 pupils took the assessments; 1 met the expected standard in Reading.
Our cohorts are small and include pupils with a range of additional needs. Not all pupils will have previously had access to the full national curriculum and some may face barriers in accessing standardised tests, even with appropriate support. As a result, these outcomes should be viewed within the context of individual needs and personalised learning pathways.
We place strong emphasis on recognising each pupil’s progress and achievements beyond statutory assessments, ensuring that all learners are supported to succeed.
