About the Stonewall Library
The
Stonewall Library
is the largest lending library of LGBTQIA+ materials in the United States, housing over
30,000 books, CDs, and DVDs
—all meticulously organized under the
Library of Congress classification system
.
The library is open free of charge to the general public for research and browsing.  If you would like to check out a book or CD, Stonewall membership is required.

Donate to Diversify the Library
The heart of our library is built on community generosity. Most of our materials have been donated by individuals who believe in preserving and sharing LGBTQIA+ stories. We welcome donations of books
by and about LGBTQIA+ people and topics
.
Please note: We are unable to accept books that do not contain LGBTQIA+ subject matter.
How Donations Are Used
New donations are reviewed against our current holdings.
If the item is unique or in better condition, it is added to the collection.
Duplicate items may be sold ($2–$3) to support the library or shared with other LGBTQIA+ libraries and community centers.
Commitment to Representation
We recognize that past collecting practices have unintentionally resulted in gaps—particularly in materials
by and for BIPOC communities
. We are actively working to address these disparities and
invite your support
in helping us build a more inclusive and representative collection.
Donations can be dropped off or mailed to:
Stonewall Library, 1300 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304

Stonewall E-books Program
Shining a Light on Our History
At Stonewall, we continue to confront the challenges facing our community and other marginalized groups. Today, the removal of books from schools and libraries—and the rewriting of our histories—are deliberate tactics to keep us uninformed and unprepared. These actions echo moments throughout history, especially in the wake of the COVID epidemic, when fear and censorship threatened progress.
But history also offers us strategies for resilience. Across centuries, human beings have overcome adversity through knowledge, courage, and collective action.
Stonewall’s collections and unwavering commitment to preserving LGBTQIA+ history and culture equip us for what lies ahead. We believe a new Renaissance is coming—one rooted in truth, pride, and leadership. Our archives are more than a reflection of the past; they’re a roadmap to a brighter future.
Introducing Our eBooks Program
We’re proud to launch our eBooks initiative, making vital titles accessible—especially those that may be banned, censored, or hard to find elsewhere. At Stonewall, these stories are not only preserved—they’re illuminated.
No one should be left in the dark. Join us in celebrating and protecting our history, because
HISTORY = PRIDE
