Our approach
Creating a culture of environmental awareness
With around 6,000 students and 700 members of staff, the University’s activities can have a large impact on our local and global environment.
We work to improve awareness of environmental issues within our community and implement strategies to reduce our impact.

We offer Carbon Literacy Training, which comes with a recognised certification from the Carbon Literacy Project.
There are various committees and working groups to join which affect change on campus, including a Green Campus group.
We have recycling points on campus for items you cannot recycle at home, such as batteries and coffee pods.
We hold monthly beach cleans, leaving from our Bognor Regis campus, that are open to anyone to join.
Students
Expand
Our intercampus bus is subsidised for students to encourage greener travel.
We are working to embed sustainability into the curriculum at all levels of learning on all courses.
Within the Students’ Union, there is a part-time officer responsible for sustainability who sits on university committees and runs events such as Green Week.
There are community fridges on both campuses where food that is close to its use-by date is available to students for free to help with the cost of living crisis and reduce food waste.
We offer FAB period product bag dispensers across both campuses and in all halls. These bags are made from sustainable materials and are designed to prevent tampons and pads from being flushed down the toilet.

Staff have access to salary sacrifice schemes for both bicycles and electric vehicles.
