Wellbeing
Wellbeing at the Heart of Learning
At Carnegie Primary, we believe happy and supported children are ready to learn and thrive. Wellbeing is at the centre of everything we do. We nurture every child’s social and emotional growth so they can feel confident, engaged, and ready to take on challenges.
We value strong connections between students, staff, and families. Parents are encouraged to be part of school life through classroom activities, excursions, and community events. Together, we create a safe, caring, and connected school community.
Respectful Relationships
Students from Prep to Year 6 take part in
Respectful Relationships
lessons as a part of our Social Emotional Learning curriculum. These sessions help children learn about respect, equality, resilience, and how to build healthy relationships. The program supports our vision of a school where everyone feels valued and safe.
Learning Positive Behaviours
Through our
School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
approach, we explicitly teach and encourage positive behaviours in line with our whole school values and expectations. This helps create a calm, supportive learning environment where every child can succeed.
Repairing and Restoring Relationships
At times, friendships and relationships can face challenges. Our
Restorative Approach
gives students the chance to talk through problems, share feelings, and find positive solutions. This helps children build empathy and lasting skills to manage conflict respectfully.
Circle Time
In
Circle Time
, classes come together to talk, play games, and share ideas. These sessions build trust, self-esteem, and cooperation, helping students to better understand themselves and others in a safe and supportive way.
Buddies Program
Starting school is an exciting adventure! Our
Buddies Program
groups Foundation students with Grade 6 buddies. Buddies provide support, friendship, and guidance, helping our youngest children feel safe and connected during their first year.
Peer Mentors
Our
Peer Mentors
are trained senior students who help others resolve small playground conflicts. This program builds leadership, empathy, and communication skills, while also creating a more caring and respectful schoolyard.
Leadership Opportunities
We believe leadership is for everyone. At Carnegie, students can take on formal roles such as School, House and Curriculum Leaders, SRC members, Peer Mentors, or Envirostars. These opportunities build confidence, teamwork, and responsibility — while strengthening our community spirit.
Living Our Values
Our school values —
Respect, Resilience, Integrity and Curiosity
— guide how we learn, play, and work together. They’re part of our everyday life at school and are reflected in each class’s
Essential Agreements
. We encourage all students to live by these values at school and beyond.
