Public Buildings Service
Who we serve
Other civilian federal agencies, who use our programs to provide their workspace and furnishings at best value to the American taxpayer.
What we do
We acquire space through new construction and
leasing
and maintain federal properties nationwide. We own or lease an
inventory
of more than 8,500 assets, maintain over 359 million square feet of owned and leased workspace and preserve more than 500
historic properties
.
Funded primarily through the Federal Buildings Fund through rent from federal agencies, the Public Buildings Service also:
Promotes
innovative workplace solutions
.
Provides space for
child care centers
.
Donates or sells
underutilized real estate
for federal agencies.
Commissions artwork for new federal buildings.
Supports
sustainable design
.
We have reorganized
We are changing how we deliver services to better meet customer needs. After reviewing our operations, we reorganized our work into eight centralized business lines based on function.
In the past, we managed our work by region to support local customers. Improvements in technology and contracting now make it possible to use a centralized approach. This model helps us provide the same level of service to customers no matter where they are located.
Under the new structure:
Our operations better align with federal judicial circuits and other customer groups.
Court-related agencies and systems are no longer split across multiple regions.
Each business line has one management structure, with teams located across the country.
These changes create a more aligned PBS and improve how we deliver services  to our customers.

Unless otherwise specified, the per diem locality is defined as
"all locations within, or entirely
surrounded by, the corporate limits of the key city, including independent entities located within
those boundaries."
Per diem localities with county definitions shall include
"all locations within, or entirely
surrounded by, the corporate limits of the key city as well as the boundaries of the listed counties,
including independent entities located within the boundaries of the key city and the listed counties
(unless otherwise listed separately)."
When a military installation or Government - related facility(whether or not specifically named) is
located partially within more than one city or county boundary, the applicable per diem rate for the
entire installation or facility is the higher of the rates which apply to the cities and / or counties,
even though part(s) of such activities may be located outside the defined per diem locality.
