New England Institute of Technology today announced a nearly 50% reduction in tuition for its Criminal Justice programs, lowering annual tuition
from $35,925 to $18,540
for both incoming and current students. The college also unveiled plans for new, state-of-the-art Criminal Justice classrooms and laboratory space at its East Greenwich campus.
Effective July 1, 2026, the tuition reduction will apply to Criminal Justice programs, including the associate degree, the Bachelor of Science degree, and the Career-Focused two-year bachelor’s degree. The announcement reflects the university’s ongoing efforts to expand access to the hands-on training that today’s public safety professionals and employers demand.
“For over 85 years, New England Tech has been a leader in preparing students for meaningful careers faster and more affordably,”
said Douglas Sherman, Senior Vice President and Provost, New England Institute of Technology.
“We are proud to make this investment in our students by reducing tuition and building facilities that strengthen their real-world learning experience.”
The investment comes at a time of sustained demand for public safety professionals across the region. A 2025 workforce analysis from the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training found that the state needs roughly 130 additional police officers each year to meet demand. Nationally, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that police and detective roles will generate approximately 62,000 job openings per year through 2034. Positions in forensic science are also a rapidly growing area of modern criminal investigation and are projected to grow 13% over the same period.
“The South Kingstown Police Department has hired several New England Tech graduates, and we have consistently found them to be well-prepared, motivated, and capable of meeting the demands of modern policing,”
said Matthew Moynihan, Chief of Police, South Kingstown Police Department.
“Their foundation in both academic principles and applied skills has made them valuable additions to our organization.”
Opening Fall 2026,
NEIT is constructing more than 4,000 square feet of new dedicated instructional space designed to simulate real-world public safety environments. The facility, located on NEIT’s East Greenwich campus, will include two forensics labs, a firearms simulation lab, a courtroom, and mock crime scenes, significantly expanding opportunities for experiential learning.
“As the criminal justice field continues to evolve, NEIT is committed to developing graduates whose skills align with the needs of today’s public safety employers,”
said Amy Grzybowski, Vice President of Workforce Development and Community Relations, New England Institute of Technology.
“Through reduced tuition and continued investment in modern training facilities, we are expanding access to education while strengthening the talent pipeline that supports Rhode Island’s law enforcement, corrections, and public safety workforce.”
NEIT’s Criminal Justice program prepares graduates for careers in local and federal law enforcement, investigation and forensics, legal and court services, and corrections.
