Nazareth Secures Third Consecutive Victory Against Cabra in Annual Intercol Showdown
In a thrilling clash of athleticism and sportsmanship, Nazareth and Cabra Dominican College recently battled it out in the highly anticipated annual intercollegiate competition. The event, a staple of the school calendar, saw Nazareth emerge victorious for the third consecutive year, securing the title with a narrow 22-19 victory.
Several standout performances were highlighted in the competition, with the Open Girls Football team making an impressive mark by overpowering their opponents with a remarkable score of 75-29. Dominating from the early stages and maintaining their dominance until the final whistle, the team’s stellar play was epitomized by Mykaela Walker, who earned the title of player of the match for her exceptional display in the midfield.
Similarly, the Open Boys Basketball team showcased their prowess on the court, achieving a resounding 46-31 victory. Carter Truslove’s exceptional scoring ability and unwavering composure under pressure earned him the title of man of the match.
The Open Girls Netball team engaged in a gripping battle, ultimately claiming victory with a score of 33-31. The team’s steadfast resilience was highlighted as they fended off Cabra’s comeback attempt in the fourth quarter. Ella Maxwell’s exceptional performance in the mid-court earned her the player of the match distinction.
The rivalry between Nazareth and Cabra extended beyond the field and court, spilling into the debating arena. The Middle School Intercol Debate centred around the thought-provoking topic, “
Should there have been a public holiday if the Matildas soccer team had won the World Cup final?
” The quality of the debate was of a very high standard, with Nazareth narrowly losing by a single point. Jiyaa Bhan, a Year 9 student from Nazareth, was celebrated for her outstanding communication skills and was awarded the Speaker of the Night accolade.
Thank you to all participants and supporters from both Nazareth and Cabra – the Intercol event wouldn’t have been possible without your collective efforts and support. It was wonderful to see our communities uniting in the spirit of friendly competition and school pride.
