Kate Kinson's story
Why a Skills Bootcamp?
Kate Kinson took part in Bath Spa University's Skills Bootcamp in Agile Project Management at the beginning of 2024.
In this interview, she tells us about why she took part, how she is now involved with the teaching side of the Skills Bootcamps and what her highlights of the course were.
Hear from our learners
“My experience on my Skills Bootcamp was extremely positive.”
The support I received was incredible and I had the opportunity to really dig deep and think about my career path and where I see myself in the future. I've taken some of the skills and methods learned into my current role and am more confident in managing a project.
Jennifer, Student, Skills Bootcamp in Agile Project Management
“The workshop was a fantastic opportunity to work with other writers, explore new ideas and learn through critique.”
By the end of the Writing for Young People Writing Workshop I had added an additional 10,000 words to my manuscript. Receiving critique was very helpful and I always felt supported and encouraged. It was lovely to be in a creative space with other writers each week.
Dani, Writing for Young People Writing Workshop

Click Start
Click Start by Bath Spa University in Creative Digital Skills was a creative digital programme designed to help learners pursue a new career. They developed next level skills in digital marketing, UI/UX design and web development to build a portfolio that'll showcase their new abilities.
Click Start by BSU ran from 2023 – 2025 and helped 350 learners aged 18 to 30 in the West of England gain the skills they need to pursue a career in a creative or technology-based field. 232 learners achieved employment, undertook further education or secured a voluntary role since completing their course, with 124 of these learners securing a digitech role.
Click Start by Bath Spa University in Creative Digital Skills was part of the nationwide Click Start training programme developed by the Institute of Coding (IoC) – a national collaboration of universities, charities and employers, and funded by Nominet - the public benefit company and guardians of the .UK web domain, which works with charities and organisations that seek to improve lives through technology.
FWD
FWD was a new style of learning that let learners pick and choose what they want to study, allowing them to match their learning to their career goals and interests.
Each FWD programme ran for up to eight weeks. This consisted of six modules across four subject areas. Learners could choose to complete as many modules as they liked.
The subject areas were:
Digital
Sustainability
Health
Enterprise
At the end of FWD, each learner worked with a business to complete a real-life industry project relevant to the skills they gained. They received feedback on their project and developed their business connections whilst putting their new skills to the test.
