Postdoctoral Development Program
Enhancing the Development of Postdocs
The goal of the Postdoctoral Development Program is to provide resources for biomedical research career success, with an emphasis on enhancing grantsmanship and preparing postdocs to successfully navigate the job search process.
Supportive Environment
The Postdoctoral Development Program is a voluntary program that supports the postdoctoral community at Albany Medical College and in the Capital Region. It has a didactic curriculum as well as resources that assist participants in preparing highly competitive fellowship and grant applications, and academic job applications. Whether you are an American citizen or an international scholar, a clinical scholar, or a fundamental researcher, we are here to facilitate all aspects of your postdoctoral training. We are happy to answer your questions, inform you of the resources available for the postdoc community, and put you in touch with other postdoctoral trainees.
Spanning Two Years
Our curriculum assists participants in preparing highly competitive fellowship and grant applications, research papers and presentations, translational and patent-oriented studies, and academic job applications. The program spans two years. The first year focuses on providing resources for biomedical research career success, with an emphasis on enhancing grantsmanship. The second year focuses on preparing postdocs to successfully navigate the job search process. The curriculum sessions are on the last Wednesday of each month. The expected time commitment is about one-and-a-half hours per month, including sessions and preparation for sessions. Sessions offered include small group discussions, Q&A panels, and presentations of tools available at Albany Medical College.
Open to All Postdocs
The program is open to all Capital Region postdoctoral fellows, including research associates and clinical fellows. If you want to receive PDP group emails, please contact Ellen Cheon, PhD, at

Advisory Committee
The advisory committee provides resources to the postdocs, assists postdocs in furthering their development as scientific professionals, and designs the curriculum of the postdoctoral development program that includes such topics as oral and written communication, grant writing, faculty position applications, and more.
The committee works closely with the Graduate Student Office and the Graduate Student Organization.
