UniMaid Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences Holds Its 13th Combined Induction Ceremony
The Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, ably represented by Professor Yakubu Mukhtar attended the 13th combined induction ceremony of graduates of Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Radiography, Medical Rehabilitation, and Nursing Science programs which took place at the University's Convocation Square.
Professor Mukhtar announced that the college graduated 88 Medical Laboratory Scientists, 89 Medical Radiographers, 56 Medical Rehabilitation graduates, and 131 Nursing Science graduates, making a total of 364 inductees. On behalf of the vice Chancellor, he stated that the University is committed to meeting the demands of its programmes by providing the necessary facilities and supporting staff development in various capacities.
He further expressed the appreciation of the Vice Chancellor to the Faculty for recognizing the University's efforts in addressing longstanding challenges and gave his assurance that the Management, under the Vice Chancellor's leadership, will continue to support the Faculty. Professor Mele congratulated the graduating students, wished them success in their careers, and urged them to be exemplary ambassadors of the University wherever life takes them.
In his remarks, the Provost College of Medical Sciences, Professor Mohammed Bukar, commended the University Management for its unwavering support and for providing adequate human, material, and physical resources within the college and allied health sciences. He encouraged the graduates to treat their patients with utmost respect and dignity and to uphold mutual respect among colleagues.
The Acting Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Professor Yusuf F. Mamza, oh his part highlighted the University's investment in staff development and infrastructural upgrades. He appreciated the continued support from the University Management and congratulated the graduates, urging them to adhere strictly to the ethics and standards of their professions.
Delivering the valedictory speech on behalf of the graduating class, Abdulrahman Ahmad, the best graduating student from the Department of Radiography, reflected on the resilience of the class in overcoming numerous challenges. He encouraged his peers to remember that true success lies in positively impacting others, and that failure is merely a stepping stone to greater achievement.
The highpoints of the ceremony included the oath-taking by the graduating students and the presentation of awards to the best graduating students: Abdulrashid Muhammad in Medical Laboratory Science, Abdulrahman Ahmad in Medical Radiography, Abiola Abdulkareem Olaoluwa in Medical Rehabilitation, and Oluebube Precious Ezeh in Nursing Science.

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele has received the Chairman, Board of Trustees of Madrasatul Darul Qur'an Wattarteel Islamic School, Alhaji Ali Abatcha (OON) and his team on a courtesy visit to his office on Wednesday, 7th May, 2025. the team was received at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building of the University. where Professor mele expressed his gratitude to Members of Madrassatul Darul Qur'an for their visit and expressed interest in providing support to progress of the school.
He affirmed the University's unwavering dedication and preparedness to embrace the relationship between the University and the outside community.
in response, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Alhaji Ali Abatcha (OON) after expressing appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for a welcoming reception, stated that the long existing relationship between the two Institutions is an everlasting bond and seeks continued association with the University.

Borno Governor , Professor Zulum Hands Over Building Structure to Unimaid Demonstration Secondary School
The Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has officially handed over a newly constructed building structure to the University of Maiduguri Demonstration Secondary School. The building structure constructed by the Borno State Education Trust Fund, comprises of classrooms, computer laboratory, home economics laboratory, library and Staff rooms for male and female staff.
The handing over ceremony which took place on Thursday, the 15th of May, 2025, by the Borno State governor Professor Babagana Zulum, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Bukar Tijjani. While handling over the building, Mallam Tijjani stated that Governor Zulum is known for fulfilling his promises and noted that this project is yet another testament to the Governor's commitment to supporting education in the state.
He emphasized that education remains a top priority for the Zulum administration, particularly in light of the challenges Borno State has faced over the past 16 years of the Boko Haram insurgency. Governor Zulum also commended the Chairperson of the Borno State Education Trust Fund for ensuring the timely delivery of the project and the University of Maiduguri for its resilience in the face of crises.
He assured the institution of the State Government's continued support for the education sector and encouraged the Students to study diligently, assuring them that the Government and the University's leadership would continue to support their academic journey and future aspirations.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, represented by Professor Muhammad Munkaila, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Governor Zulum and the Borno State government. He acknowledged the numerous ways the State Government has supported the University and praised its commitment to advancing education in Borno State.
The Principal of the University of Maiduguri Demonstration Secondary School, Hajiya Aisha Kaka Bukar, who spoke on behalf of the Staff and Students of the school, expressed profound gratitude over the remarkable infrastructure provided. She said that the new classrooms, laboratories, Staff rooms, and other facilities would significantly enhance the teaching and learning environment, especially in a region recovering from years of conflicts.
She further described Governor Zulum as a symbol of educational restoration and transformation not just in Borno State, but across Nigeria and assured him and the University management that the school would make the best possible use of the new facilities.

Minister of Power Inspects 12KVA Solar Project at University of Maiduguri
The Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo A. Adelabu, has paid an official visit to the University of Maiduguri to inspect the ongoing 12KVA-capacity solar project under the Rural Electrification Agency’s (REA) Energising Education Programme (EEP), an initiative of the Federal Government.
The solar energy project, designed to serve both the University of Maiduguri and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), is at an advanced stage of completion, ahead of its official commissioning. The minister who spoke shortly after conducting the inspection on Wednesday, 28 May 2025 expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and the pace of progress on site.
The government is conscious of the energy cost burden on its institutions. As part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, efforts are being made to ensure that all educational and healthcare institutions are adequately powered,” the Minister stated.
Chief Adelabu emphasized that the project aligns with the Ministry’s commitment to the United Nations' climate change regulations, noting that the initiative is emissions-free and supports Nigeria’s transition to clean energy.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to providing sustainable electricity to over 35 institutions across the country through the Energising Education Programme, “the first phase has been completed; this project is part of the second phase, and preparations for the third phase are already underway,” he added.
Representing the Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Yakubu Muktar expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for including the university in this critical intervention. He described the project as transformative, significantly enhancing teaching, learning, and research.
The Chief Medical Director of UMTH, Professor Ahmed Ahijo also commended the Federal Government for extending the solar project to the hospital. He described it as a “life-touching” initiative that not only powers the hospital but also directly benefits patients and improves healthcare delivery.
Professor Ahijo noted that the project currently meets 50% of the hospital's daytime electricity needs, resulting in improved productivity and more efficient service delivery. He appealed to the government to enhance the system’s storage capacity to enable round-the-clock power supply.
On behalf of the Rural Electrification Agency, the Project Engineer, Engr. Joro Salau appreciated the cooperation and support received from both institutions and assured stakeholders of efficient and reliable service delivery upon the project's completion.

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele has received the Chairman, Board of Trustees of Madrasatul Darul Qur'an Wattarteel Islamic School, Alhaji Ali Abatcha (OON) and his team on a courtesy visit to his office on Wednesday, 7th May, 2025. the team was received at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building of the University. where Professor mele expressed his gratitude to Members of Madrassatul Darul Qur'an for their visit and expressed interest in providing support to progress of the school.
He affirmed the University's unwavering dedication and preparedness to embrace the relationship between the University and the outside community.
in response, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Alhaji Ali Abatcha (OON) after expressing appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for a welcoming reception, stated that the long existing relationship between the two Institutions is an everlasting bond and seeks continued association with the University.

Borno Governor , Professor Zulum Hands Over Building Structure to Unimaid Demonstration Secondary School
The Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has officially handed over a newly constructed building structure to the University of Maiduguri Demonstration Secondary School. The building structure constructed by the Borno State Education Trust Fund, comprises of classrooms, computer laboratory, home economics laboratory, library and Staff rooms for male and female staff.
The handing over ceremony which took place on Thursday, the 15th of May, 2025, by the Borno State governor Professor Babagana Zulum, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Bukar Tijjani. While handling over the building, Mallam Tijjani stated that Governor Zulum is known for fulfilling his promises and noted that this project is yet another testament to the Governor's commitment to supporting education in the state.
He emphasized that education remains a top priority for the Zulum administration, particularly in light of the challenges Borno State has faced over the past 16 years of the Boko Haram insurgency. Governor Zulum also commended the Chairperson of the Borno State Education Trust Fund for ensuring the timely delivery of the project and the University of Maiduguri for its resilience in the face of crises.
He assured the institution of the State Government's continued support for the education sector and encouraged the Students to study diligently, assuring them that the Government and the University's leadership would continue to support their academic journey and future aspirations.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, represented by Professor Muhammad Munkaila, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Governor Zulum and the Borno State government. He acknowledged the numerous ways the State Government has supported the University and praised its commitment to advancing education in Borno State.
The Principal of the University of Maiduguri Demonstration Secondary School, Hajiya Aisha Kaka Bukar, who spoke on behalf of the Staff and Students of the school, expressed profound gratitude over the remarkable infrastructure provided. She said that the new classrooms, laboratories, Staff rooms, and other facilities would significantly enhance the teaching and learning environment, especially in a region recovering from years of conflicts.
She further described Governor Zulum as a symbol of educational restoration and transformation not just in Borno State, but across Nigeria and assured him and the University management that the school would make the best possible use of the new facilities.

Minister of Power Inspects 12KVA Solar Project at University of Maiduguri
The Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo A. Adelabu, has paid an official visit to the University of Maiduguri to inspect the ongoing 12KVA-capacity solar project under the Rural Electrification Agency’s (REA) Energising Education Programme (EEP), an initiative of the Federal Government.
The solar energy project, designed to serve both the University of Maiduguri and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), is at an advanced stage of completion, ahead of its official commissioning. The minister who spoke shortly after conducting the inspection on Wednesday, 28 May 2025 expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and the pace of progress on site.
The government is conscious of the energy cost burden on its institutions. As part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, efforts are being made to ensure that all educational and healthcare institutions are adequately powered,” the Minister stated.
Chief Adelabu emphasized that the project aligns with the Ministry’s commitment to the United Nations' climate change regulations, noting that the initiative is emissions-free and supports Nigeria’s transition to clean energy.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to providing sustainable electricity to over 35 institutions across the country through the Energising Education Programme, “the first phase has been completed; this project is part of the second phase, and preparations for the third phase are already underway,” he added.
Representing the Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Yakubu Muktar expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for including the university in this critical intervention. He described the project as transformative, significantly enhancing teaching, learning, and research.
The Chief Medical Director of UMTH, Professor Ahmed Ahijo also commended the Federal Government for extending the solar project to the hospital. He described it as a “life-touching” initiative that not only powers the hospital but also directly benefits patients and improves healthcare delivery.
Professor Ahijo noted that the project currently meets 50% of the hospital's daytime electricity needs, resulting in improved productivity and more efficient service delivery. He appealed to the government to enhance the system’s storage capacity to enable round-the-clock power supply.
On behalf of the Rural Electrification Agency, the Project Engineer, Engr. Joro Salau appreciated the cooperation and support received from both institutions and assured stakeholders of efficient and reliable service delivery upon the project's completion.
