No.1 Royal Crescent
No. 1 Royal Crescent has been decorated and furnished as it might have been during the period 1776-1796. The rooms feature historic furniture, pictures and objects that form the museum collection.
We are also very fortunate to have a number of objects on loan from private lenders as well as from the following institutions:
Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution
Holburne Museum, Bath
Lady Lever Art Gallery, National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside
National Portrait Gallery
National Trust
The Royal Bath and West of England Society
Tate
Temple Newsam House, Leeds City Council
Victoria and Albert Museum
Victoria Art Gallery, Bath and North East Somerset Council
Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers / The Frederick Parker Collection

The Gallery at No.1 Royal Crescent
We created the gallery in 2013 as part of the Whole Story Project. This initiative reunited No.1 Royal Crescent with its original service wing in No.1a. It was generously funded by local supporter Andrew Brownsword.
As of September 2024, the gallery is hosting a new programme of exhibitions under the name The Gallery at No.1 Royal Crescent.
The first exhibition is Being There. It showcases four recently acquired portraits by Thomas Gainsborough, alongside portraits by 18 contemporary British artists. Ingrid Swenson has curated the show.

Bloomberg Connects
We are pleased to share our guide on
Bloomberg Connects
, the free arts and cultural app created by Bloomberg Philanthropies. Along with our sister museum the
Herschel Museum of Astronomy
, we are currently some of the only museums in Bath to offer guides on the app. The Bloomberg Connects app, available for download from Google Play or the App Store, makes our museum accessible for onsite visits through photo, audio and video features. We also have devices that visitors can borrow to access these new guides. The guide also includes sections just for children so that they can engage with the museums independently.
Whether you are in the museum or sitting at home, you can explore the collections and engage with our stories.
