Committed to Excellence
Professional careers in architecture and Interior design are the goals of the programs we offer. The architecture and interior design curricula provides students with a ready path to the larger professional world based on domain of ideas, historical context, and deep understanding of the human condition. Specialized knowledge, experience and opportunities enable students to think critically about the built environment from a creative and innovative approach, with practical application for the world in which we live.
In terms of quality, academic excellence, more than 130 architecture and interior design students have received awards in 63 major design or research competitions over the last 10years, at the local, national, and international levels. This consistent record of competitive success reflect the educational and professional focus of the school. Thanks to developed knowledge, skills and abilities and with CAPPA’s tradition of integrating work and academic experience, graduates of The University of Texas at Arlington are fully prepared to enter the professional world.
MISSION
The School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Arlington builds on a legacy of rigor and experimentation rooted in the ethos of the Modern Movement, while envisioning a future that transcends its boundaries. At the core of our mission is design—a framework for creativity, innovation, critical thinking, and social justice. We foster an environment where students and faculty approach architecture as a transformative and expansive discipline; as a patchwork of intellectual traditions and paradigms in constant realignment, which inevitably engage with the main social, economic, climatic, and technological challenges of our time.
As part of our commitment to a more inclusive society, we empower our students, many from underrepresented communities, to lead in imagining and implementing just, sustainable, and beautiful built environments. Through a collaborative and multifaceted approach to research, teaching, and community engagement, we conceive architecture as a force for meaningful change in society.
VISION
As the only accredited architecture program in North Texas and one of the largest in the country, the School of Architecture at UTA bears a unique responsibility and an extraordinary opportunity. The responsibility of providing an outstanding education on architectural design to a diverse student body, the majority of whom come from historically marginalized communities. And the opportunity to yield a decisive influence over the built environments and cultures of the DFW Metroplex, one of the fastest-growing metropolises in the US.
To fulfill our responsibility and make the most of this opportunity, the School of Architecture at UTA will develop research and pedagogical initiatives in areas as diverse as design-build and community engagement; fabrication, computation and applied research; architectural history and theory; or ecological urbanism. All coalescing around the idea of design as a way of actively engaging with reality. We envision our school, a leading design institution in Texas, as a place where innovation and creativity equal collaboration and engagement. As a place where one of the most diverse architectural communities in the US becomes the agent to improve the built environments where more than eight million people wake up every morning.
