Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Integrated program?
Sometimes referred to as a “4+1 program,” Chapman’s Integrated programs allow currently
enrolled, eligible undergraduate students to complete a master’s degree at an accelerated
pace. During their senior years (junior years for the MA in Curriculum and Instruction
program), Integrated students can take graduate level courses while finishing their
bachelor’s degree. By taking graduate coursework during their bachelor's program,
Integrated students can earn a master’s in as little as one additional year after
completing their undergraduate studies.
How do Integrated programs work?
Integrated programs let you start your graduate studies while finishing your bachelor’s
degree. Most Integrated programs have students begin their graduate coursework during
their senior year. (The MA in Curriculum and Instruction program is designed to have
students begin graduate coursework in their junior year.)
In your senior year, you can take up to 15 units of graduate-level courses (some programs
allow fewer). By getting a head start on your master’s requirements, you can earn
your graduate degree in as little as one additional year after completing your bachelor’s
degree.
What are the benefits of doing an Integrated program?
Save money.
As an Integrated student, you will continue paying your undergraduate tuition rate
without receiving any additional charge for taking graduate classes during your senior
year. Approved graduate credits may be shared for both degree programs.
Save time.
You can complete your master’s degree in as little as one year after finishing your
bachelor’s degree. This accelerated path helps you reach your academic and professional
goals sooner.
Stay in the Chapman family.
As an Integrated student, you won’t have to start over at a new school. You will already
know the campus, the resources, and maybe even some of your future professors.
How can I learn more?
You can learn more about Integrated programs by attending an
Information Session
for your graduate program of interest. You can also reach out to the
Graduate Admission Office
with any questions.
What term should I apply for?
Apply for the term when you will officially begin as a graduate student. Integrated
students are considered graduate students only after they have completed their bachelor’s
degree and are enrolled exclusively in graduate-level courses.
Can I start taking graduate classes during my senior year on my own and then apply
to an Integrated program?
No, you must apply and be admitted to an Integrated program before you begin taking
graduate classes.
I’ve been admitted. How do I start registering for graduate classes?
Log in to your application status page and “Reply to Your Offer of Admission” to accept
your admission offer. You won’t need to pay an enrollment deposit fee.
Undergraduate students must have earned or be enrolled in courses that will bring
them to at least
90 credits
before the first day of the graduate course(s) in which they wish to enroll.
Students must complete the
Undergraduate Request to Register for Graduate Course Form
and email it to
regforms@chapman.edu
. This form includes an approval signature from the instructor of the course and the
chair of the department, academic unit head, or program director of the academic program
unit offering the course.
How do I know which classes I need to take?
Connect with your Graduate Program to outline your schedule. If you are not sure who
your Graduate Program contact is, reach out to the
Office of Graduate Admission
When am I fully considered a graduate student?
Integrated students are considered graduate students only after they have completed
their bachelor’s degree and are enrolled exclusively in graduate-level classes.
While Integrated students take some graduate-level courses during their junior and/or
senior years, they are still classified as an undergraduate student until they receive
their bachelor’s degree.
How and when will my tuition and financial aid change?
Your tuition and financial aid will remain the same until you are considered a graduate
student. Once you are considered a graduate student and are only taking graduate classes,
your tuition and financial aid will be recalculated to match your graduate program
and status.
