Advising is available to all Chapman students. Even before you start your first semester,
you will have access to advisors who are here to help you:
Stay on track to graduate on time.
Explore second majors and minors.
Find study abroad programs that align with your academic goals.
Find clubs related to your academic interests.
Prepare for graduate or professional school.
Learn about internships and other professional opportunities.
Make the most of your academic experience at Chapman.
Academic Advising
As a Chapman undergrad, you will have your own dedicated academic advisor. Your advisor
helps you make informed decisions about your education and achieve your goals in college
Your advisor is assigned to you based on your major
. Your assigned advisor will be able to help you with questions specific to your major
and career path, as well as more general questions. Undeclared majors also have their
own advisor. Some areas your advisor can assist with include:
Building a four-year plan for your major.
Integrating your GE classes with your major.
Your advisor is your point of contact on navigating campus
. If you need help with anything related to academics or student life, reach out.
Your advisor can help you or direct you to appropriate campus resources.
Faculty Mentoring
Faculty mentoring is exactly what it sounds like: getting one-on-one guidance from
a professor. Faculty will use their deep subject-area expertise and industry connections
(as well as knowledge of your interests, goals and strengths) to provide expert advice.
Your faculty mentor can provide:
Personalized academic mentoring.
Designing your own major or interdisciplinary study.
Building a personalized plan for the professional world or graduate school.
Career Advising
Dedicated career advising is available from
every school/college at Chapman
. This helps ensure that your career advisor is knowledgeable about the careers and
opportunities in your major.
Your career advisor can help you find an internship or prepare for lining up a job
after you graduate.
And since we offer career assistance for life, you can get career advising at Chapman
from before you ever set foot on campus to well after you’ve graduated.
Study Abroad Advising
Chapman students have access to a study abroad advisor through our Center for Global
Education. We encourage all students to study abroad if possible, and your study abroad
advisor can help you plan the experience.
Peer Advising and Mentoring
At Chapman, advising isn’t just a one-way street. In addition to help from staff and
faculty, you’ll get help from your fellow students with peer advising.
Many schools/colleges and departments have a peer advising program where upperclass
students help new and incoming students.
And if you’re interested in becoming a peer advisor and helping others, you can do
that too (once you have a few semesters of college under your belt).
Specialized Advising
We also offer specialized advising to help you reach specific goals. Just a few examples
include:
The
Pre-Med and Pre-Health Advising program
helps students become competitive applicants to medical or professional school.
The
Pre-Law Program
helps students prepare to apply to law school.
The
Film Festival Office
helps film students
navigate the complex, diverse, and evolving film festival and distribution worlds.
School/college advising
Within your specific school or college on campus, you will have access to plenty of
advising resources. These range from advisors who can help you with your major requirements
to major-specific career advisors and much more.
