BACKGROUND
Royal Museum located at Old National Palace, Jalan Istana, Kuala Lumpur, is the residence of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong (1957-2011). After this period, the Old National Palace building was converted into a museum known as Royal Museum and was opened to public on 1st of February 2013 until now.
The Muzium Diraja building built since 1928 by a Chinese millionaire called Chan Wing as his mansion. The design of this double-storey building was the creative brainchild of a famous architectural firm in Singapore, Swan and MacLaren. The architecture of this building has a Palladian-style to reflect its opulence and grandeur that mansion. During the Japanese Occupation of Malaya, the building was use by the Japanese as their officers’’ quarters, before it was taken over by the British Military Administration (BMA) for use by the Royal Air Force after the end of World War 2.
Then, in 1950, the building was converted into a temporary palace for the Sultan of Selangor, the late Sultan Sir Hisamuddin Alam Shah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Alaiddin Sulaiman Shah until the expiration of the lease on February 1957. The building was eventually bought over by the Federal Government and turned into National Palace, the official of His Majesty The Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong. As National Palace, the building has been modified several times and undergone massive extensions in the 1980s with the addition of the Balairong Seri for official ceremonies.
OBJECTIVE
•
To plan, execute and document all research activities and information to become a reference centre about the Constitutional Monarchy in Malaysia.
•
To provide and explain the information about National Palace building itself.
•
To preserve and conserve the historical building and landscape in Royal Museum which was gazetted as monument and national treasure.
•
To execute the educational programme and exhibition such as permanent exhibition, temporary exhibition and special exhibition, also tour guide.
VISION
To be a reference and research centre about the Constitutional Monarchy in Malaysia.
MISION
•
To become a special museum which disseminating knowledge comprehensively about the role and the functions of National Palace building itself.
•
To provide interesting programmes, activities and exhibitions about The Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
•
To provide information to our local community and foreigner on the importance of Royal Institution.
•
To become one of tourism product in Malaysia

Royal Museum complex consists of two blocks, namely:
National Palace Gallery:
The former residence of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong. National Palace Gallery displays the official and personal spaces of His Majesty and Her Majesty, each of which has a specific name, function, design and its own protocol.
Balairong Seri:
Built in 1980s and was used for the official ceremonies of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong such as Instalation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Ceremony, Oath of Installation and Acclamation, Investiture Ceremony for Federal Awards and Honours and Royal Dining Banquet.

BACKGROUND
Royal Museum located at Old National Palace, Jalan Istana, Kuala Lumpur, is the residence of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong (1957-2011). After this period, the Old National Palace building was converted into a museum known as Royal Museum and was opened to public on 1st of February 2013 until now.
The Muzium Diraja building built since 1928 by a Chinese millionaire called Chan Wing as his mansion.
