Mystery, Music, and Mayhem: The Mount Presents Curtains
March 2026
This spring, the students of Mount St. Dominic Academy lit up the Doris M. Byrne ‘40 Performing Arts Center with their production of the musical
Curtains
Set in 1959 at a lively Boston theater, Curtains follows a cast thrown into chaos when their supremely untalented leading lady Jessica Crenshaw (played by Alexa Leiva-Carrasco ‘26) is mysteriously murdered on opening night—by none other than the show’s hard-nosed lead producer Carmen Bernstein, played by Felecita Pomares ‘26. In this classic whodunit, the case falls to detective Lieutenant Frank Cioffi (played by Noah Lopez, SHP ‘27), who secretly dreams of the musical theatre stage. As he works to solve the mystery, he must also save the troubled production before it can reopen.
This year’s spring production featured first-time Mount performers as well as veterans of the Mount stage, including seniors who capped off their final year with their eighth production at the Mount. This show also marked the directing debut of Jessica Stanzek. Under her leadership, students not only excelled in their performance, but also grew in friendship, confidence, and creativity.
In total, more than 60 students participated across cast, crew, and production teams, showcasing the incredible depth of talent and dedication within the Mount’s performing arts community. Among them were 29 seniors who helped bring the show to life both on stage and behind the scenes.
As part of a cherished Mount tradition, the Sunday matinee concluded with a rose ceremony honoring the graduating performers. During the ceremony, each senior received a rose and a heartfelt tribute delivered by an underclasswoman and fellow thespian.
For the seniors, Curtains was more than just a show—it was a celebration of years spent building friendships, learning new skills, and growing in creative expression. Their gratitude for the performing arts at Mount St. Dominic Academy was evident both on and off the stage as they reflected on the memories and opportunities the program has provided.
A huge thanks to producer Kelly Sullivan King ’84 P’16, ’23, who created such a wonderful environment for all Mount and Seton Hall Prep students. As the final curtain fell, it was clear that this production was not just a performance, but a testament to the spirit, passion, and community that define theatre at the Mount.
