Constitution of Socio Economically Disadvantaged Group Cell
In accordance with the guidelines issued by the UGC, Government of India, dated January 2024, regarding the provision of equitable opportunities for Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs) in Higher Educational Institutions(HEIs), the following committee is constituted with immediate effect for two years.

Objectives of the Committee:
Objectives of the Committee:
To ensure the constitutional rights, dignity, safety and security of students belonging to SEDGs.
To support inclusive, safe and equitable education for SEDGs at the institution.
To provide academic, emotional and socio-economic support and mentoring to SEDGs students.
To oversee the implementation of orientation programs, bridge courses and outreach initiatives.
To implement and monitor all schemes and policies meant for SEDGs by the Government / UGC.
To handle grievances of SEDGs students within 15 days via Grievance Redressal Committee.

Coordinate with existing cells (SC/ST cell, Equal Opportunity Cell etc.) for policy execution.
Ensure implementation of :
Orientation and bridge courses
Earn-while-learn schemes
Outreach and sensitization programs
Facilitate financial support through CSR, alumni funds and other external sources
Maintain a single-window mechanism for addressing the needs grievances of SEDGs students.
Organize awareness and sensitization programs for faculty, staff and students.
Promote inclusive participation of SEDGs in academic and extra-curricular activities.
Ensure regular dissemination of updates, schemes and facilities through the Institution’s portal.
Maintain records of welfare programs and submit periodic reports to the Vice-Chancellor, IIST
Conduct periodic meetings to review implementation and suggest improvements.
All concerned are requested to extent their full coperation and support in implementing the objectives for equitable access and inclusive education for Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups as per NEP-2020 and UGC guidelines.
