Curriculum Overview
Emmaus College offers a comprehensive curriculum to cater for a wide range of student interests, needs and abilities. The classroom experience at Emmaus is about developing students with a strong value for learning and a futures orientation. Our students are challenged to persevere, to be diligent and to think critically.
The Academic Program of the College aims to:
provide a wide variety of relevant learning experiences, recognising the difference in learning styles, learning rates and abilities of our students
provide a learning environment that encourages students to perform to the best of their ability thus achieving positive learning outcomes
provide a curriculum that challenges students
encourage students to value learning
enable students to obtain the qualifications necessary to proceed to further education or employment
nurture wisdom and develop the capacity within students to examine all knowledge and all aspects of life in the light of Christian values.
In Year 7, students study a set course where they have an opportunity to experience a broad range of subjects. As they move into Years 8, 9 and 10, students study a number of core subjects, while having an increased opportunity to study elective subjects of particular interest.
Emmaus College is committed to enabling senior students to be successful with their learning, achieve the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and have viable options post-secondary school.
Whether it is further study at a tertiary institution, a traineeship, apprenticeship or entry into the workforce, the College offers quality senior school pathways where students can select from a comprehensive suite of study options. In year 11 and 12, students choose one of the following pathways, with both offering the opportunity to qualify for a QCE:
Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) pathway which allows a student direct entry into tertiary study
Workplace Learning Pathway which allows students to study Applied subjects, a combination of General and Applied subjects, certificate courses, school-based apprenticeships or traineeships or TAFE courses that allows them to gain skills necessary to move into apprenticeships or employment after school.
Within each pathway, students are required to choose six subjects in the following way:
Three core subjects including a Religious Education, English and Maths subject; and
Three elective subjects from the extensive range on offer.

Educational Facilities
Learning at Emmaus takes place in a physical environment abound with the latest technology and modern learning spaces. Wireless internet throughout the College can turn any area of our campuses into a classroom. All learning spaces are enhanced with interactive whiteboards that allow teachers to deliver our curriculum in a way that is modern, responsive and practical. Supported by the 1:1 Laptop Program and the College’s broad use of online spaces, students can connect with their study and their peers anytime, anywhere. This is supported by a dedicated eLearning Facilitator on staff as well as four IT Helpdesk staff. Our dedicated Middle and Senior school libraries encourage collaborative learning within a contemporary, relaxed setting, and offer broad online and physical catalogues.
