Our visual arts program creates a supportive environment where students develop both technical abilities and personal artistic voices. Through structured skill-building and creative exploration, students progress from foundational techniques to sophisticated self-expression that reflects their unique perspectives.
Middle School Art Foundation
Our middle school curriculum builds progressively to develop well-rounded young artists.
6th Grade: Artistic Heritage
Explore the connection between art and cultural history
Build foundational techniques and vocabulary
Discover how art shapes and reflects human experience
7th Grade: Seeing and Creating
Develop observational skills and technical abilities
Work with diverse media and artistic elements
Connect personal interests with artistic expression
8th Grade: Finding Artistic Voice
Focus on the "why" behind artistic creation
Develop meaningful personal approaches to art-making
Create projects that blend technical skill with self-expression, like our recent split self-portraits combining abstract and realistic elements
Upper School Art Pathways
Beginning in 9th grade, students select specialized paths that allow deeper exploration.

Drawing & Painting:
Progress from foundational skills to developing a unique artistic vision
Photography:
Master both traditional darkroom techniques and digital approaches
Design for Publication:
Create the school's yearbook and literary magazine
Advanced Opportunities
AP courses in Drawing, 2D Design, and Art History for college-bound artists
Exhibition experience through professional-style presentations
Field trips to museums and galleries for real-world connections
Celebrating Artistic Achievement
The visual arts program culminates each spring with our all-school art exhibition—a student-organized showcase that transforms our campus into a professional gallery space. This event celebrates creative growth while giving students valuable experience in exhibition design and curation.
