Through our teaching practices and research methodologies we question, explore, observe and investigate pressing issues and complex challenges in areas from creative social justice and environmental sustainability, to health and wellbeing for individuals groups and populations at local, national and global levels.
We collaborate with others to produce specialised and interdisciplinary evidence to implement, promote and inform solutions to create genuine impact. We equip students with the theoretical and applied knowledge, experience, and skills to develop critically engaged, ethically-minded, and effective graduates.

Our teaching
Our staff offer an unrivelled combination of expertise through both industry and academic experience.
Our teaching practice is balanced with engagement with the outside world, including international field trips, field work, and engagement with community projects.

You can’t explore the world without hands on practice. That’s why over the past five years, we have invested in renovating and updating our Science laboratories to give you access to state of the art lab, workshop, and field equipment - everything you need to satisfy any curiosity and develop transferable skills for your future career.

Research within the School of Sciences engages with the outside world through continued partnership and funding with major research bodies and organisations, including the Wellcome Collections, ESRC (Economics and Social Research Council), UGC-UKIERI, and the NHS.

Environmental Science graduate Angelica took part in the Quarry Life Awards (QLA), where she, along with other students and members of staff, investigated sand properties for sand lizard breeding in Dorset with the hope of informing the creation of receptor sites elsewhere. Her valuable experience gave her a good insight into what working in the field as a research assistant is like.
