The Williams Center for Undergraduate Student Achievement
Who We Are
The Williams Center for Undergraduate Student Achievement empowers first-generation and low-income Black male students to excel in college through comprehensive academic support, mentorship, and financial assistance.
Since 2017, we've served 60+ young men at Southern University at Shreveport, achieving a
76.9% retention rate
, nearly double the campus average of 41%. More than 60% of our scholars have graduated and transferred to four-year institutions or entered the workforce with career-ready skills. Our scholars don't just survive college, they thrive, maintaining a 3.2 average GPA while serving their community and preparing for their futures.
Through scholarships, stipends, and comprehensive support, we've invested over
$200,000
directly in our scholars' success.
Our Mission:
Help young Black men not just get to college, but graduate from college and then lead their communities with purpose.
What Makes Us Different
Weekly academic counseling, tutoring, and success coaching ensure every scholar stays on track. We don't just admit students, we support them every step of the way.
Mentorship & Brotherhood
Alumni mentors, guest speakers, peer support, and leadership development create a network of role models and a brotherhood of scholars who lift each other up.
Community Service
Every scholar participates in regular community service projects, developing servant leadership skills. We don't just create graduates, we create leaders who give back.
Full Financial Support
Up to $2,000 per year in scholarships and stipends, plus tuition assistance, housing, meals, books, and professional attire. We remove financial barriers so scholars can focus on what matters: their education.
