Registration 2026
Before you can become a UP student or continue with the next year in your academic course, there are crucial admin processes that need to be completed – some are once-off, others need to be done every year.
Students often confuse two important tasks: Applying at the University of Pretoria and registering at the University of Pretoria.
Must I complete an application or registration?
Firstly, it’s important to understand the main difference between an application and registration.
Prospective students who want to study at the University of Pretoria must submit an application to the university.
During the first few weeks of the new academic year, every student must register for the courses they intend to study in that specific academic year. This applies to new students, current students, postgraduate students, and international students.
Why must I register?
The registration process ensures critical access and academic support systems are in place for every student, such as:
Access to the UP campuses
Access to study materials for every module
Review available bursary options
Receiving credits once students pass modules
Access to academic supervisors for postgraduate students
Start the registration process
