Most Vermonters who smoke or use nicotine want to quit. You may be one of them or know someone who is trying. Although it can be hard, with the right tools and support, quitting is possible. Whether you want to quit cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, smokeless tobacco/chew, heat-not-burn tobacco products, oral nicotine pouches or vaping devices (either traditional or disposable types), 802Quits, Vermont’s free quit tobacco treatment resource, is here to help.
Research shows that it can take many tries before a successful quit. With each attempt you learn something new about yourself and what works, bringing you closer to a life without nicotine and tobacco. Even if you've tried to quit before, you haven't failed; you just haven't finished yet!

Not ready to quit? Create a smoke- and vape-free home for your family, friends and pets
If you’re not ready to quit tobacco and nicotine yet, there are a lot of things you can do right now to help yourself and to protect your loved ones – especially children, who are the most vulnerable to the harmful effects of secondhand and thirdhand cigarette smoke and vape emissions. Here are some steps to take:
Cut down on your smoking and vaping. To help you cut down, use a nicotine replacement therapy, or NRT, patch to reduce the cravings and symptoms of withdrawal. Vermonters get free NRT gum, lozenges and patches at

Stop smoking and vaping in your house and your car and ask others to do the same.
Create a designated smoking area away from common areas, pet living areas and play spots.
Never smoke or vape any substance when your children are present.
