Shoemakers establish Global Scholars Program
A new scholarship program funded by
John Shoemaker ’64
and his wife, Donna, will support international travel and off-campus educational opportunities for Hanover’s business students.
The John C. and Donna Shoemaker Global Scholars Program for Business Majors was created to provide financial resources to enable students to take a business department course taught outside of the confines of Hanover’s campus, whether internationally or within the U.S. In addition to coursework, the experience must also include cultural learning opportunities focused on the arts, such as museums, theater productions, historical architectural sights and more.
Funding will underwrite student expenses associated with traveling abroad, including airfare, lodging, local transportation, program-related excursions, meals and travel insurance.
To be eligible to receive the scholarship, students must be a
business major or minor
, have a 3.0 grade-point average in business courses, demonstrate leadership skills through coursework, campus involvement, internships or community engagement, and provide financial information related to their ability to pay for the trip.
Shoemaker has more than four decades of experience in high technology, including executive management roles at Sun Microsystems and Xerox Corporation. He is currently the board chair at Extreme Networks and has also served as a board member for numerous companies such as Altera Inc., SonicWall Inc., Astute Technologies, Inc., and Conformative Systems, Inc.
In addition to the Global Scholars Program, the Shoemakers are also the namesakes of the
Hanover Business Department
’s Shoemaker Speaker Series and
The Shoebox
. The speakers series brings prominent voices on business, leadership and innovation to campus each spring., The Shoebox is an on-campus, student-run, cabin-style eatery and entertainment venue adjacent to the Panther Athletic Complex.
