Located in both the former ticket office and the former ladies' waiting room of Insch’s attractive working railway station, the Insch Connection Museum houses a treasure trove of information.
Displays give an overview of the history of Insch and district with photographs, artefacts and everyday stories of how life was lived in this area, including a model of Dunnideer Castle, a black Victorian wedding dress and numerous maps.
The railway connection includes a scale model of the station which shows Insch railway station in the days when the layout of tracks was complex, the railway station being of strategic importance to Insch and the farming communities.
As well as the railway model, a Victorian wedding dress and many other things to see, we have a selection of special exhibitions which change from time to time. You can find details of our special exhibitions on the
Exhibitions and Events
page.
Archive material about Insch and District is available for research; material in store is readily accessible on request. Our computer database which uses MODES software is growing all the time, and can be searched in the museum free of charge.
Younger visitors enjoy watching our model trains in operation in the scale model of the station and also like to play with our wooden train set.
The museum is accessible for wheelchairs most easily from the station car park via the ramp to the platform and then through the waiting room.
