Family and Consumer Sciences is part of the Unified Arts rotation in the Middle School. All students at the middle level are required to participate in the Unified Arts program.
Family and Consumer Sciences courses are one semester, elective courses in grades nine through twelve. All of these courses, listed on the High School page, will allow students the opportunity to explore not only career opportunities and creative expression but practice skills they will use in daily living for the rest of their lives.

Grade 8
The sixth grade family and consumer science course lasts for nine weeks. Students incorporate problem-solving skills, communication skills, and group cooperation in sixth grade family and consumer sciences. Hands-on class activities focus on basic foods and nutrition with emphasis on cooking techniques and safety, basic child care, first aid, and money management.
The seventh grade family and consumer science course lasts for six weeks. The seventh grade program continues to empower students to incorporate problem-solving skills and cooperative learning. Students learn consumer rights and responsibilities in the market place.
The eighth grade family and consumer sciences course lasts for 12 weeks. Students will continue to incorporate problem-solving skills and group cooperation in eighth grade. Hands-on class activities focus on financial and resource management, healthy lifestyle choices, nutrition, goal setting, child development, and service learning are incorporated into this program.
