About
We believe children learn best in an inclusive, creative, and nurturing environment that engages the whole child. Students here are active partners in their education, and learning is joyful.
Academics
Academics
From its inception, Burgundy has educated children in innovative ways. Our students learn by doing. The school community and its two campuses offer a nurturing atmosphere that inspire creativity through the arts and develop critical thinking skills with an integrated curriculum and hands-on projects.
Admission
Admission
Burgundy educates children from Junior Kindergarten through grade 8. The admission process begins in the fall prior to the year in which a student enrolls.

Burgundy doesn’t just refer to our school or our campuses. Burgundy is a beloved community.
The Burgundy Difference
Burgundy Difference
The Burgundy community is united by its commitment to creating a learning community that affirms children for who they are and where they are developmentally and that helps all our students realize their full potential as students and as people.
Giving
Giving
The Burgundy that our students and families love and enjoy today is the product of a handful of families doing together what none could have done individually: purchasing land, rehabilitating and raising buildings, hiring a professional faculty.

Burgundy doesn’t just refer to our school or our campuses. Burgundy is a beloved community.
Generations of Burgundy’s students and alumni — not to mention several hundreds of adults associated with the school across the decades — have experienced the uniqueness of Burgundy: in the incredible campus in Alexandria that inspires learning, creativity and independence; in the Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies and the deep learning, memories and respect for Nature that are fostered there; in the many field trips all over the metropolitan Washington region. Our faculty and staff — with significant help from families — help students and alumni forge connections with all kinds of people on and off campus who teach, inspire, and illuminate.
Each member of our community creates strands that together creates a thread of community that continues to grow.
Even before the school year began, my son’s science teacher invited him and a few other 7th graders to go fishing at the pond (did I say we had a pond?). They spent most of the day laughing and spending time together. Just seeing the happiness on his face when he returned with a bucket full of fish (all of which were put back by the way) demonstrates what Burgundy is all about. My son was completely unknown to the group, yet he was included as if he had always been a part of the community.
