Democracy X (formerly Danish Board of Technology) is a non-profit, private foundation seeking to address the societal challenges of exceeding planetary boundaries, technological acceleration, and the need for democratic empowerment and innovation. Democracy X specializes in participatory Technology Assessment and Responsible Research and Innovation. It does so through action oriented Public Engagement methods and projects which often engages with Danish Parliamentarians.
The Danish Board of Technology (now Democracy X) was first set up as a statutory body in 1986. In 1995, it was established as an independent body the Danish Parliament (Folketinget) under the Board of Technology Act No. 375 of June 14, 1995. This act was abolished in 2012, and the organization subsequently continued its activities as a private foundation. In 2023 it bought and merged with DeltagerDanmark (ParticipationDenmark) and was renamed Democracy X in 2024.
Democracy X has been an associated member since 2017, having previously been a full member.
