Leading Parent Partnership Award
Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA)
The
Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA)
is a national school improvement award that places pupils, students and their families at the heart of the process.
We were first awarded LPPA status in
September 2023
, and we are now, 2 years on, in the process of re-applying for the award. One of the most significant achievements to emerge from the process so far has been the development of a large-scale
stakeholder conference
, created in direct response to feedback and interest from our parent partners.
In
March 2024
, over
100 stakeholders
joined us for the first in our series of events called
“The Big SEN Conversation.”
The Big SEN Conversation –Transition Information Day
The day began with family networking, followed by a welcome from the Principal and a pupil panel. Attendees enjoyed a keynote speech by autistic speaker and advocate
Michael Barton
, a marketplace of information stands, and a choice of practical workshops focusing on topics such as supporting transitions, navigating SEN law, self-advocacy, and preparing for life beyond school. The event also offered optional clinics, tours and parent consultations.
This highly successful event model will continue to shape our work as we deepen our partnership with families and the wider community. Our next “Big SEN Conversation” conference will be taking place in 2026 and will focus on Developing Independence.
Asking Families What They Think
At the heart of our LPPA work, has been feedback from the families of our pupils and students. Our LPPA group met to review the family survey responses and helped us to plan next steps. Families volunteered to join, and we have also invited Governors, Alternative Learning Providers, the Local Authority and our Student Voice to contribute or stay informed about developments. In 2023, we circulated a survey to understand families’ experiences of the school and gather their thoughts and suggestions. Many responses highlighted the need for:
more training opportunities
increased chances to be involved in school life
additional events and visits to understand the school from the pupil/student perspective
more information about strategies to support children at home
We have worked hard to listen and respond, and we hope families who have been with us for a year or more have felt improvements in these areas. New families may already have reflections and recommendations they would like to share.
