Supporting our local community through volunteering and fundraising
Supporting, volunteering and charitable fundraising provides broader perspectives and raises awareness and understanding for our pupils and organisations we work with. At the same time pupils develop resilience, creativity and problem-solving skills through their involvement in planning, participation and leading a range of events and activities. Our community is at its strongest when we work together.

Helping hands, big hearts
Recent research highlights the mutual benefits of volunteering on the emotional wellbeing of the volunteer, as well as positive impact on those supported. From Year 7 upwards, pupils become involved in charitable fundraising and, as they move up through the school, have a wider range of opportunities to volunteer, support organisations and give back. Many pupils take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, which includes a volunteer element at Bronze, Silver and Gold level.

Sixth Form volunteering placement scheme
Through our Sixth Form volunteering placement scheme, all our Lower Sixth students take part in our volunteering scheme, choosing from a wide range of ways to give back. Opportunities include mentoring younger pupils, offering specialist sports coaching and supporting local community projects.
Further afield, pupils volunteer with a range of international organisations and charities, often in the summer vacation. These experiences broaden horizons, foster cultural understanding and encourage each girl to see herself as part of a global community.

Charities and fundraising
Each year we champion a charity and support a cause close to our hearts.
Led by the Lower Sixth Charity Steering Group, pupils organise a week-long series of fundraising events. Recent highlights include a 24-hour sponsored Dance-a-thon, Open Mic Night and Charity Tag and year- round initiatives from bake sales and sponsored events to concerts.
Sustainability projects
From eco-committees to partnerships with environmental groups, pupils engage in a range of initiatives to build a greener future designed to have a positive impact on our world while developing leadership and problem-solving skills.
Alumnae network
Our alumnae community is global, diverse and supportive. Partnerships extend across generations, offering mentorship and inspiration from women who continue to shape the world beyond Calne.
