Together with these institutions and the state's Community and Technical College System , the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission is working to arm 60 percent of the Mountain State's workforce with a formal credential beyond high school by 2030 -- nearly doubling the percentage of working-age West Virginians with a postsecondary education over the next decade. About the Higher Education Policy Commission The Commission develops and oversees a public policy agenda for West Virginia’s four-year colleges and universities. Comprised of a 10-member board , the Commission works with institutions on accomplishing their missions and carrying out state procedures. A source of support for institutions and students, the Commission’s work includes academic affairs, administrative services, finance and facilities, financial aid, health sciences, human resources, legal services, policy and planning, science and research, and student affairs. College Planning Resources for Students & Families The Higher Education Policy Commission, together with the Community and Technical College System of West Virginia, administers the College for West Virginia initiative as the state's postsecondary planning centerpiece. On CFWV.com , students can access information on all state financial aid programs, high school planning timelines, ways to explore the training and degrees available in the state, free ACT and SAT test prep, avenues for applying to colleges, and career-matching tools. Here, students can also apply directly for state-level financial aid programs that total more than $100 million each year – including the Promise Scholarship, Higher Education Grant Program, and much more. Since the program was launched in West Virginia in Spring 2021, students have saved more than $7.75 million in course material costs.
