On 30 October, the Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi - Senior School held its annual Prize Giving Day to celebrate exceptional student performances.
A total of 60 students were awarded from Grade 6 to the Diploma Programme (DP) 1, as well as the top 22 DP2 students from the recently released International Baccalaureate (IB) results. Parents, students, teachers and the entire Aga Khan Education Service (AKES), Kenya support staff were in attendance during the celebration.
Head Teacher Eva Pillossof addressed the audience and expressed her good wishes for the success of all students.
“You're here, right now, at this moment because tomorrow you want to be somebody greater than the person you are today,” she said. “You see yourself succeeding, you have a vision, you have a dream. Congratulations!”
The guest speaker, Senior Officer - Logistics at RefugePoint (Kenya) Ms Yukabeth Otieno, gave a speech to the audience, appreciating the teachers as the school’s unsung heroes. She went ahead to encourage the students to build social capital amongst their peers, and a network of authentic personal and professional relationships that will help mould their lives after school.
“Students, remember your network is your net worth, therefore, choose wisely the people you surround yourself with,” she said.
Finally, the learners displayed excellent musical skills through live performances during the event, as well as the student MCs engaging the audience throughout.
