Net Metering
The statute that governs the implementation of net metering in Vermont is
Title 30 Section 8010
. The law was most recently updated in 2014 with
Act 99
, when the Legislature directed the Public Utility Commission (PUC) to initiate proceedings to redesign net metering. The current program started January 1, 2017.
The PUC's
Rule 5.100
governs the net metering program. The
PUC's net metering page
provides additional useful information on net metering application procedures.
Rule 5.100 provides for a biennial review process during which adjustors to net metering compensation and categories can be adjusted. The
most recent biennial adjustments order
is dated June 17, 2022.
