Eighth Graders Showcase Impact Through Community Projects
On March 11, our eighth graders presented their Community Projects to peers, families, and friends, marking an important milestone in their Middle Years Programme (MYP) journey. These presentations represent the culmination of months of dedication, creativity, and meaningful work.
Students began their projects in the fall by identifying topics of interest and forming groups. The process included exploring real-world needs, developing action plans, and reflecting on their learning. This year’s projects addressed a wide range of issues, including clothing insecurity, collecting pet supplies for animal shelters, creating art boxes for children without access to materials, and raising awareness about the environmental impact of idling vehicles.
Depending on their focus, students engaged in direct service, indirect service, advocacy, or research. Along the way, they strengthened their collaboration, time management, and communication skills. Many students stepped outside their comfort zones by connecting with teachers and partnering with local organizations to make an impact in their community.
The Community Project reflects our school’s mission to empower students to make a positive impact. It also embodies the IB philosophy of developing internationally minded learners who recognize their shared responsibility within a global community. Through service, students come to understand that thoughtful, informed action can truly make a difference.
