Degree Requirements
Candidates for the Master of Public Health degree must complete 42 credit hours in accordance with the prescribed course of study and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. At this time, MPH offers one concentration, Health Education and Promotion. The MPH program offers two entry terms (Fall and Spring)
Admissions Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the MPH degree program, you must:
Complete the online application
Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university located within the United States
GRE is waived
Have a cumulative GPA indicative of success in graduate school, generally 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale
Provide:
Curriculum vitae or resume
Two (2) recommendations from academic or professional references for non-Wingate applicants
For Wingate applicants, contact name and information for two (2) references
Personal statement of intent for pursuing an MPH degree
Applications for Spring 2026 entry are due by January 5, 2026. Applications for Fall 2026 entry are due by August 5, 2026.

Arrange to have your official transcript(s) sent directly from all previously attended colleges and universities.
Coursework taken at foreign institutions must be evaluated for U.S. institution equivalence by an approved National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) organization used by Wingate University. We recommend World Education Services, Inc. & SpanTran for evaluation and University Language Services for translation.
International students whose first language is not English should ask the TOEFL or IELTS testing agency to send us your scores.

The MPH program is 100% online. F1 visa international students, per federal regulations, cannot be granted visas for online degrees. International students who are NOT seeking entry into the U.S. on an F1 student visa may apply to the MPH ONLINE program.

Due to the online nature of the MPH program, we do not sponsor F1 visas for entry into the U.S.

I don’t live in North Carolina, can I find an applied practice experience (APE) site where I live?
Applications cannot be reviewed until they are complete. Applications with missing transcripts, standardized test scores, etc. are incomplete, and put applicants at a distinct disadvantage, therefore we recommend submitting all materials before the deadline.
We utilize a rolling admission for the MPH program and enroll students in the program each fall semester. The application deadline for fall enrollment is early August, please check this page for the specific date.
Financial aid is available to Graduate/Professional students at Wingate University in the form of Federal Direct Student Loan eligibility. A student's financial aid package may include eligibility for a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan, Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan, or combination of both loan types. If you are interested in utilizing student loans to assist with your educational expenses, you will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Please be sure to have your results sent to Wingate University, school code: 002985.

We use Canvas.
All courses are completely online. Courses delivered by public health faculty will be asynchronous, meaning that all lectures will be taped and students will be engaging in self-directed learning. All materials will be accessible through Canvas the online platform. Courses delivered by the Business Program will be synchronous online, with live lectures.
Students will be able to download both platforms to their computer, mobile device or tablet.
The readings and required textbooks will be available online through the Wingate University Library. Students may opt to purchase hard copies of textbooks if they so wish.
Students in the MPH program will engage with the Business Program and learn about organizational management of healthcare systems. The credits obtained will go towards the MPH degree.
The MPH program is offered as a full-time and part-time program. The program must be completed within 5 years from when the student enrolled in the program.
Yes, students will engage in the Applied Practice and Integrated Learning Experience in year 2 of the curriculum. Students will be placed at an approved practicum site in the community. The required hours for the practicum is 250 hours after which students will also be required to complete a written product on their work in the practicum.
No, formal thesis is required for graduation. However, as part of the applied practice, students will be required to develop a final scholarly product, either video, or other written or non-written work. For the integrated learning experience, students will be required to develop and submit a proposal related to addressing a public health topic, and develop a written scholarly product as part of the semester course.
Yes, students can independently identify an applied practice experience site in their specific geographic region. However, before registering for the applied practice experience course, students must get approvals for the site from the Director of MPH Program. The site must also be willing to sign an affiliation agreement or memorandum of understanding with Wingate. There must also be a professional on site to serve as the preceptor. Students will be expected to work closely with their faculty advisor and the course director on this before placement can be made.
The Wingate University Department of Public Health is an applicant for accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health. The accreditation review will address the Master of Public Health Program. Other degrees and areas of study offered by this institution will not be included in the unit of accreditation review.
The Department of Public Health, Wingate University is an applicant for accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health. The accreditation review will address the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH), Master of Public Health (MPH), MPH 4 + 1, and Doctorate in Pharmacy/Master of Public Health (PharmD/MPH). Other degrees and areas of study offered by this institution will not be included in the unit of accreditation review.
The BSPH and MPH (4+1 included), and PharmD/MPH Programs require community-
based internship or practicum placements at third-party facilities in partial fulfillment of the graduation requirements. Although the Department of Public Health at Wingate University uses its best efforts to place all students in these settings, Wingate University cannot guarantee that the third-party facility or agency will permit students without U.S. citizenship or permanent residency to complete their training with the identified organization. It is the responsibility of each prospective BSPH and MPH student to consult the requirements of the external facility or agency in the U.S. state in which they plan to pursue a placement to determine the qualifications and their eligibility to work with them.
